In a major development in the world of digital assets, Joseph Chalom, Head of Digital Asset Strategy at BlackRock, has left the investment giant to become the new co-CEO of SharpLink. This career move is not just a professional transition—it reflects a broader shift in institutional focus from Bitcoin to Ethereum.
After 20 years at BlackRock, where he played a key role in launching major Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, Chalom has now joined SharpLink, a company that has recently emerged as one of the largest Ethereum whales.
SharpLink currently holds over 360,000 ETH, valued at approximately $1.34 billion, and has generated around $354 million in profits from these acquisitions. Chalom, known as an Ethereum maximalist, has stated his intention to make Ethereum the “global foundation of DeFi.”
He aims to leverage Ethereum’s native features such as staking, restaking, and tokenization of real-world assets to push this vision forward. The move from BlackRock to SharpLink signals a stronger institutional pivot toward Ethereum and its growing ecosystem.
According to Chalom, a future where stablecoins, real-world assets (RWAs), AI, and other innovations run on the Ethereum blockchain is entirely within reach — and SharpLink is positioned to play a leading role in building that future.
