Renewed Efforts Toward Ending the Gaza War

Cairo has once again become the center of Middle Eastern diplomatic activity. In recent days, Egypt has hosted a new round of talks involving delegations from Hamas, Israel, Qatar, and the United States, aimed at finding a path to end the Gaza war and establish a framework for the region’s future.

According to informed sources, Hamas has announced that it is ready to release all Israeli hostages if two key conditions are met: a complete end to the war and a broad withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip. This marks the group’s first official indication of willingness to reach a final agreement, although the outcome largely depends on Israel’s response.

On the other side, Israel has so far rejected these terms. Its delegation, led by Ron Dermer and including representatives from Mossad, Shin Bet, and the Israeli army, has arrived in Cairo for the talks. The Hamas delegation, headed by Khalil al-Hayya, has emphasized that any agreement must include a permanent ceasefire and a clear plan for Gaza’s reconstruction.

The main points of disagreement remain unresolved. These include the scope of the Israeli army’s withdrawal, the disarmament of Hamas, guarantees for a ceasefire, the potential deployment of an international peacekeeping force, and the governance structure of Gaza after the war. Meanwhile, Qatar and the United States are working to bridge the gap between the two sides and pave the way for a possible compromise.

Despite the many challenges, analysts believe that holding these talks at this stage signals a cautious willingness from both parties to move away from military confrontation. However, deep divisions over Gaza’s future and the role of each actor mean that the path toward peace remains complex and uncertain.
