Trump’s Gaza Peace Board Demands $1B for Permanent Membership

President Donald Trump plans to require countries seeking permanent seats on his newly proposed “Board of Peace” for Gaza to pay a $1 billion membership fee, according to reporting from Bloomberg and The Atlantic. A draft charter obtained by both outlets shows Trump as the inaugural chairman with exclusive authority to approve new members.

Under the charter, the board becomes official once three states agree to join. Regular terms last three years, but countries that contribute more than $1 billion in cash within the first year can bypass this limit and secure ongoing membership. Despite the steep price tag, it’s not clear how the funds would be used, as the draft only states that board financing depends on voluntary contributions.

While the proposal positions the board as a “more nimble and effective international peace-building body,” critics note the charter makes no direct reference to the Gaza Strip itself, and appears to sideline established institutions such as the United Nations.

Trump announced the board this week as part of his broader 20-point peace plan for Gaza, which follows a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas after a prolonged two-year conflict. He said Phase 2 of the plan — involving militant disarmament and Israeli troop withdrawal — is now underway.

The White House has named several high-profile members to the board, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and investors Robert Gabriel and Marc Rowan.

Invitations to join have been sent to leaders from outside the U.S. Argentine President Javier Milei accepted the invitation, calling it “an honor” and committing Argentina to confronting terrorism and supporting peace. Egypt acknowledged receiving its invitation, and Turkey also confirmed its outreach.

Additional invitations were extended to officials from Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bulgaria, and the Netherlands, as well as individuals including Cypriot-Israeli real estate figure Yakir Gabay and Dutch politician Sigrid Kaag, now the U.N. special coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process.

The White House has been contacted for additional comment.
